John Gruber on The Information's Latest Report about Apple's AR/VR Headset

Nearly missed this one during my skiing vacation last week: John Gruber raises some interesting points when analyzing the latest report on Apple's widely-expected AR/VR headset by The Information. You should definitely check it out.

I don't know why every possible new product from Apple is always framed as though it needs to be an iPhone-esque success or it's a bust. [John Gruber on Daring Fireball]

I also fully agree that Apple does not need this to be the next "iPhone". If it sells as well as Apple Watch or AirPods it would already be a huge success. Especially given the "success" Meta (aka Facebook) has had so far with its "Metaverse" push.

To be honest, I do not see a huge mainstream potential for VR glasses or VR in general - at least not in the short term (and I am a gamer). However, lightweight and easy to use AR glasses might have some very real business applications in various areas such as architecture, education, or medicine. And for these applications it would not hurt if the glasses initially sell for €3,000 as expected by some analysts.

As John points out - the real challenge for Apple will be to get the usability right. If they don't the product might be dead on arrival. If they do this might be the AirPods of AR glasses.
